Fiji Adventure Travel

In addition to the fabulous island resorts and local Fijian culture, Fiji ranks high for adventure vacations. Whether you choose to hike, bike, scuba dive, snorkel, golf, or fish, Fiji is tailor-made for relaxed, authentic experiences and adrenaline filled adventure.

Tui Tai Adventure Cruise
Join Tui Tai Adventure Cruises for the trip of a lifetime. Visit remote beaches, snorkel incredible reefs, kayak to local villages and relax at breathtaking locations across Northern Fiji. The cruise immerses guests in the natural beauty and island culture of Fiji. The relaxed schedule and wide variety of activities allows each guest to do as much or as little as they want.

The A/S Tui Tai is a magnificent 140-foot sailing schooner based in Savusavu, Fiji. The ship is equipped with Perception kayaks, Kona mountain bikes, quality snorkel gear and air-conditioned accommodations for 25 guests. Sixteen Fijian officers, sailors, guides and hospitality staff ensure the safety and enjoyment of each guest on their adventure at sea.

Fiji Kayaking with Rivers Fiji
Whether you're an experienced whitewater veteran or a complete novice, they have a variety of options to accommodate a range of skill and interest levels. From class I to class IV whitewater, aboard inflatable kayaks and whitewater rafts, they explore some of Fiji's most spectacular terrain by floating in relative comfort along two of the country's premier liquid pathways, the Upper Navua Gorge and Wainikoroiluva.

Kayak through lush mangrove forest...snorkel incredible coral reefs. Their Beqa Island Sea Kayaking Adventure provides the perfect addition to paradise. Rivers Fiji is committed to sustainable tourism practices and works very closely with neighboring riverside villages. Their guides grew up along the rivers they explore and know their environment better than anyone.

Fiji Hiking
The National Trust of Fiji administers six National Parks designated as areas of outstanding national beauty. Our pick of the National Parks and other hiking trails include:

  • Koroyanitu National Park, Nadi Area, Viti Levu
This National Park offers several day and overnight walks, a visitor centre, scenic lodge accommodations and camping. Trails into the rainforest also pass through local villages and combine the stunning natural scenery with ecotourism. Highly recommended.

  • Sigatoka Sandunes National Park, Viti Levu
This 4-mile stretch of large windswept sandunes along the island’s coast is a protected environment administered by the National Trust of Fiji. The park has a very informative visitor centre describing the history and ecology of the region. There are several official trails to explore the sandunes that often expose ancient pottery shards.

  • Colo-i-Suva Forest Reserve, Suva, Viti Levu
Offers 6km of trails through rainforest less than 20 minutes drive from Suva. The area has several small waterfalls, indigenous flora, bird life, scenic lookouts, and tons of adventure. However, a note of caution: being close to Suva, the park is a hot spot for crime and a recent case of rape has further scarred the name of the park. Buses go beyond Colo-i-Suva into the heart of Naitasiri. Naitasiri is a stunning region, very traditional with lots of thatch villages and small family plantations. Naitasiri and neighbouring Namosi are the best regions in Fiji to explore the experience the "old" Fiji. Bad weather is common and roads are frequently flooded. This is traditional countryside and although accessible to tourists, village protocol should be observed - before exploring present yaqona to the local chief and ask his permission - you will be encouraged to take a local villager with you as a guide.

  • Bouma National Park, Taveuni, Northern Islands
In the beautiful Garden Island of Taveuni, this park offers three separate day hikes - Tavoro Waterfalls, Lavena Coastal Walk and Vidawa Rainforest Hike, all excellent for the adventure traveler. There is also a rough trail to Lake Tagimoucia, home of the rare Tagimoucia flower that comes out in abundance between September and December.

  • Nausori Highlands, Nadi Area, Viti Levu
This inland rural area is an impressive collection of rolling hills, river valleys and volcanic peaks. The highlands also offer fantastic views over the Mamanuca and southern Yasawa Islands to the west. The hills transform from sunburnt grassland to lush green valleys during the wet season from December to April.

  • Lovoni Trail, Ovalau, Lomaiviti Group
The tropical mountains behind Levuka on Ovalau have some excellent trails, waterfalls and swimming pools to explore. The beauty here is that they can all be reached from the road a short walk from the historic town of Levuka. Of notable interest for hikers is an arduous day trek to remarkable Lovoni Village, isolated in the center of this exotic island.

Game Fishing
Fishing in Fiji is favored all year round. There is simply great fishing for everyone! All methods of game fishing are available in Fiji - choice of group to instruct captain/crew. Overnight charter is also available where the whole family can fish and hook a great catch of edible fish.

Dry Season: May - November
Wet Season: December - April

Best Wahoo Season: May - August
Best Billfish Season: March-April, July-August, October-November
Best Tanguige Season: Feb-April, July-August, October-November
Best Tuna Season: April - July
Sailfish occur through the year - possibly best in August
